Marymount Scene

Choose a space on Marymount’s campus that you are likely to see cultural interaction. (If you are sure you are going to grow an essay using the first "seed," then think of a space in that narrative and follow the exercise below).

  • Close your for 3 minutes eyes and imagine what the space looks like. Then write for 5 minutes. You can use a panorama scene or a bird’s eye view. The more details and specifics, the better.
  • Close your eyes again, this time spending 2 minutes imagining what sounds you hear in the space. Write for 3 minutes about the sounds.
  • Close your eyes again, spending 2 minutes imagining the smells of your space. Write for three minutes about the smell.
  • Close your eyes for 2 minutes imagining the textures and temperatures of your space. What does your space feel like? Details such as the feeling of a breeze on the skin would go here. Write for 3 minutes about touch.
  • Close your eyes for 1 minute imagining the taste of your space. This can be as simple as the taste of the air in an open mouth or as complex as the food people are eating on the shuttle bus or cafeteria. Write for 2 minutes about the taste.
